Question

Can't figure out how to adjust margins (en masse, I guess)

I'm finishing the editing on a PDF of a book I wrote. It is going to be spiral-bound, so I figured out at some point how to move the entire block of content on each page .25" to one side to allow for the spiral-binding holes.  I forgot, though, that since each page of the book will be printed on both sides, every other page in the PDF needs to be moved the opposite way .25".  But now I can't recall how I did it in the first place.  Please help!

Hi there,

Hop you are doing well and congrats on finishing your book.

You can definitely adjust the page content for spiral binding in Acrobat using the Crop Tool. This works well if your pages are already laid out correctly and just need shifting.

- Open the PDF in Adobe Acrobat (desktop).

- Go to Tools > Edit PDF.

- Click Crop Pages.

- Double-click on any page to open Set Page Boxes.

- Under Margin Controls, enter 0.25" for Left or Right (depending on the page).

- Under Page Range, select:

Odd pages only → move content one direction

Even pages only → move content the opposite direction

- Click OK, then repeat for the other page set with the opposite margin value.

This lets you shift odd and even pages separately.

Tip: Before sending the file to print, try printing a few test pages (front and back) to confirm the margins line up correctly for the spiral binding.

Thanks

Amal

Thank you for your reply!

When I do as you said, it makes the pages .25" narrower. Is there something I need to click on that keeps the page the same size and just shifts the content? I don't want to change the width of the area/page, just move the whole block of content one way or the other.
