Can't find a way to add initials instead of a signature

I have a client who wants to add a field where someone can initial something instead of a signature. It appears as though there used to be that optoin but, for the life of me, I can't seem to find a way to do it now or find anythign on the internet that indicates that this feature was removed or

Hope you are doing well and sorry for the trouble. As described your client wants to add an initial field instead of the signature field.

- Is he trying to add the initial field while creating the PDF form or when sending the form for signature?

- What is the workflow/steps you are doing?

If you are trying to add the initial fiels when creating the PDF form, please try the following steps:

Go to Tools > Prepare form and Select 'This document require signature' and click 'Start' and then you will get the option to insert the initial field in the PDF Form as shown below:

This feature doesn’t seem to be available on my version of Adobe Pro DC. Has it been removed or is there a way to add it?

I hope you are doing well, and thanks for reaching out. Sorry for the trouble you had.

The Initials option has not been removed. In Acrobat/Acrobat Reader, you can still add initials separately from your saved signature. Sign PDFs.

ts location depends on which Acrobat interface you’re using.

New Acrobat interface: Open the PDF, select E-Sign, then choose Add initials in the panel.
Classic Acrobat Pro DC interface: Go to All Tools > Fill & Sign > Sign yourself > Add initials.

Type, draw, or import an image of your initials, select Apply, then click where you want to place them. You don’t need to replace your saved signature. Reference article: Fill and sign forms.

Please ensure that you have the latest build of Acrobat 26.002.22031 Planned update, Oct 14, 2026 installed on the machine. Check for any pending updates from the Menu > Help > check for updates, install any pending updates, restart the app, and the computer.

If Add initials is missing, please share your Acrobat version, operating system, and a screenshot of the signing options, with personal information hidden. Also mention whether you’re adding initials to your own PDF or completing a signature request, fields in a requested agreement are controlled by the sender.
