Can't open PDF files after Windows 10 upgrade

After upgrading from Windows 7 Pro to Windows 10 Pro (v. 1909) I am no longer able to open pdfs in Adobe Acrobat X, XI, or Reader. I am able to open using Edge or any other web browser but when I switch it to open in Adobe Acrobat or even Reader, it spins and then nothing. The process shows up in task manager but then closes within 10 seconds. This is what I am getting in event viewer log:

I have tried without luck:

  • repairing adobe
  • uninstall/reinstall
  • running in compatibility mode
  • downloading and running latest updates
  • Anti-virus scan
  • Ran adobe as administrator
  • Rolling back to Windows 7, uninstalling Adobe, upgrading to Windows 10, reinstalling Adobe

When I rolled back to Windows 7, it worked fine. Any thoughts?

These versions are old and not supported by Adobe any longer. For best results make sure to update them to the latest version available and run in Compatibility Mode with an earlier OS, like Windows 7.

I did another upgrade on another computer the same exact way with the same exact version of Adobe installed and there was no issues with that one. PDF files open normally

I am having exactly the same issue and have had to reinstall over and over, it works for a day and then stops working.  Please can someone tell us how to fix this, my entire home business is dependant on my being able to preview, view, and highlight etc. on pdf's.
