Can't update Adobe Acrobat, getting error: 1782

I can’t get updates for my Adobe Acrobat on macOS for a while. I’m using Help - Check for update for manual update control but I get an error saying “ An error occurred. Please check for updates again later. Error: 1782”

Currently I’m on Acrobat version 2025.001.20937 and macOS 26.3 (M1 Pro Macbook Pro)

Does anyone have any idea what may be the reason?

@selimutlu It could a couple of things.

    1. Maybe it's corrupted preferences. I would head to your library/preferences/ and find the file that has com.adobe.Acrobat.plist (Personally, when was the last time you purged your preferencs on your MAC? I changed my battery in my MacBook, and I had issues with Adobe apps, Apple told me to double-click on the Preferences, and Command A and delete it. And empty the trash) and delete that file, and empty the trash. Restart your MacBook so it can create new preferences

    2. I would use the Adobe Cleaner Tool, to remove any stragglers of old corrupt installers or files. https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/apps/troubleshoot/diagnostics-repair-tools/run-creative-cloud-cleaner-tool.html . Follow the instructions.

    3. Now go back and download from Acrobat Release Notes page. Don't use the previous installer as it could be corrupted.

    4. Open Adobe Acrobat. In the top menu bar (the one with the Apple icon ), click on Help. Select Check for Updates... Click Download and Install. Or you can go through the Creative Cloud Desktop App too

    Hi @selimutlu

Hope you are doing well and sorry for the trouble you are experiencing.

    • Are you using the standalone version of Adobe Acrobat or is it managed through the Adobe Creative Cloud app?
    • Is this a personal license or managed by your organization (enterprise account)?
    • Are you connected to a VPN, firewall, or restricted network when checking for updates?
    • Does the Creative Cloud app (if installed) show any pending updates for Acrobat?

Error 1728 in Adobe Acrobat during updates usually indicates that the installer cannot properly update, modify, or repair an existing installation because it is in an inconsistent state. This often happens when update files are corrupted, or a previous installation/uninstallation did not complete correctly

    Please try to:

1️. Sign Out & Back In

    • Sign out of Acrobat
    • Quit the app completely
    • Reboot your Mac
    • Sign back in and try updating again
    • This refreshes licensing + update services.

    2.Check Firewall / Network Restrictions

    • Switching to a different Wi-Fi network
    • Temporarily disabling VPN
    • Trying a mobile hotspot
    • If it works on another network, it’s likely a firewall or ISP restriction blocking Adobe update servers.

If it still doesn't work, please remove the application using the Acrobat cleaner tool https://www.adobe.com/devnet-docs/acrobatetk/tools/Labs/cleaner.html , reboot the computer and reinstall the application using the direct link https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/acrobat-dc-downloads.html

Let us know how it goes.

    Hi Amal

    Thanks for the tips. Here are my answers;

    • Are you using the standalone version of Adobe Acrobat or is it managed through the Adobe Creative Cloud app? - I don’t exactly remember how I had installed in first place. Creative Cloud is also installed on my mac but I used Acrobat for updates until now.
    • Is this a personal license or managed by your organization (enterprise account)? - Personal
    • Are you connected to a VPN, firewall, or restricted network when checking for updates? - No but I’ve used different networks for troubleshooting
    • Does the Creative Cloud app (if installed) show any pending updates for Acrobat? - Installed but now showing any updates however I don’t think V2025.001.20937 isn’t the latest Acrobat Pro version for macOS?

I’ve used both of your suggested actions and had no luck. Now I will try removing the app completely.
