Can't use Acrobat reader

I purchased Acrobat DC last year to do a project. I have tried to delete it from my computer but it won't delete. I now cannot use Acrobat reader as DC keeps telling me to pay and use that. I don't need the DC version as I am retired and use reader for a couple of volunteer projects only.  How do I uninstall DC from my Macbook and keep only the reader. As it is now I cannot even read my PDF files.
