I cannot open documents, even after renaming them and saving to my iPad. I get the error, "The document cannot be opened because it is corrupted or damaged". When I tap "ok", I get the next error, "the file couldn't be opened because it isn't in the correct format".

i downloaded the file from a government website and saved it with a new name. I cannot find any answers. Please help

Hi,

You said this is happening with every  PDF file you try to open or only with the government PDF form that you downloaded?

If this is happening with every PDF file, make sure that you've selected the appripriate program to open and handle PDF file association.

In this case, making  Adobe Acrobat Reader the default PDF viewer.

Now, I don't think defaulting to Acrobat Reader in iOS is possible and it has to be selected manually everytime by long pressing on the PDF file and selecting what to open it with.

You have to check if, for some reason, the program that is trying to open the PDFs is not the iOS default PDF file handler/viewer.

Thanks for your insight.  How do I confirm if the program is the default iOS PDF file handler/viewer?

Hi,

In iOS it should be Preview and I don't think that it can be changed, but I may be wrong.

I found this thread from Apple support that seems to have the right answer(s):
