Cannot open links in pdf document

I am unable to open links in a document which was sent to me by a friend.  I have always been able to click on the link and the new document would open but now it suddenly is not doing that.  I downloaded the latest Adobe Reader and it was working fine until now for this feature.  The person who created the document and inserted the links can open the links without a problem.  The links were created using the latest version of Word.  Can anyone help please?  Thank you
