Question

Cannot save a document. Acrobat says it is read only.

I just downloaded Adobe Acrobat,. It is up to date.  It refuses to Save As an edited  file. Instead an error message says that the file (and every other file I have opened )  is Read Only or being used by someonle else.  I am not on a network.  I am saving it to an external drive...the same drive that I opened the original file.  I have tried all the suggestions  on the internet including remove Enhance Security. .  I also have tried right clicking on my document , but no property option appears which says remove read only.

What can I do?

Hi @christina_5971,

Hope you are doing well. Sorry for the trouble, and the delayed response.

Do you still experience the issue? If yes, would you mind copying one such file to the desktop and then trying the same workflow again?

If it works, means there are issues with file writing on your external drive, and you will have to manually allow write permissions to the drive.

You can refer to the drive's manufacturer website for help related to doing so.

Also, please ensure you are on the latest version of the application (2024.005.20320) for the best experience.
