Question

Change in Deestination file actions.

In my GIS Mapping program I have many files hyperlinked to pdf files including their destinations. Some of these files are 50 to 100 pages long so having the destinaion files to immediately locate the page you need is very helpful and speeds things up. Just upgraded my computer which is now on Windows 10 and the newest version of Adobe DC Pro. None of the thousands of destination links work anymore. Has anyone else faced this problem? Not looking forward to redoing work that was fine a week ago.

The first thing to find out is whether those links are relative or absolute. Unfortunately, this is not possible to do directly in Acrobat, so what you can do is check the target of one link, then close the file, move it to a completely different folder and then check it again. If it appears the same then it's absolute. If not, it's relative. If it's absolute that means that you must have the exact same folder structure as it was when it was originally created for it to work. If it's relative then you just need to have the links in the same location relatively to the main PDF for it to work.

Either way, editing such links in batch is not possible in Acrobat, either. It is possible using this stand-alone (paid-for) tool I've developed, though: http://try67.blogspot.com/2014/01/batch-edit-file-links-in-pdf-files.html

This tool only has a function to output the exact path of each link, so you could see where they're pointing to.

What happens when you use the links?

Now what happens is it takes you to the first page of the documents not the appropriate page.

People that have not updated their Adobe still go to the correct desination page.
