changes highlight opacity doesn't transfer when pdf is opened on new computer

I have a huge document of accounting lines. I am highlighting lines with different color. So I don't bleed out the original text, I change the opacity of the color to around 40%. It is nice. However, when I save the document and send it to someone else, the opacity goes back to 100% and bleeds out the text. Any ideas of what's going wrong?
