Character Limit in fillable pdf. Hitting limit deletes all text : (

I've created a fillable pdf with a text field with a limit of 3700 characters (i.e. 500 words). But once people meet the character limit, all their work suddenly gets deleted. How do I ensure my fillable text field has the 3700 character limit but doesn't automatically delete their work if they hit the limit?
