Question

Checkboxes in PDF from Excel (Adobe Acrobat Pro 2020)

Similar post, but 6 years later, using the latest version of Adobe Pro DC

I created an Excel sheet (Microsoft Office 365) that contains a checkbox at the beginning of each line.  I can check these boxes in Excel.

When I create a PDF from it, the checkboxes are there, but I cannot check them.  When I click on them, the checkbox gets selected (as a text box or graphic, I think), but no checkmark is put in it.

Is there anything I can do to make these checkboxes checkable in Adobe?  I tried creating the PDF in Excel, as well as creating a PDF in Adobe, using "Prepare Forms" and selecting the Excel file.

You have to create the fields from scratch in Acrobat. This can be done using the Prepare Forms command, although it rarely gets it right, or manually, or using a script.

As for the latter option, I've developed a (paid-for) tool that will convert certain Wingdings characters to check-boxes (or radio-buttons) fields with 100% accuracy. You can find it here: http://try67.blogspot.com/2015/09/acrobatreader-convert-wingdings-to.html

Thanks Try67.  I sent you an email .  I like your idea of a script.  Sounds ingenious.  I would need the script for work and not sure I can get the approval to have installed in my work issued computer.
