I use checkmarks to go through a document to varify both text and numbers. After my first page the checkmarks reapear on the next. If i continue and make checkmarks and so on it becomes more on the next. If i then go back up the checkmarks from later pages comes up on the early ones. Why is this happening?

Could you please share more details about the issue? Are you on a Mac or Windows machine, and what is the version?

Is it happening with all the PDFs, or with one specific PDF? Please ensure you have the latest version of Acrobat installed on the machine: Version: 26.001.21563. Planned update, May 18, 2026. Check for any pending updates by navigating to Menu > Help> Check for Updates. Install the updates, restart the app and the machine, and try again.

Suggestions:

Add checkmarks one at a time (don’t keep the tool “sticky”): In Acrobat, click Add Checkmark (✓) and click once where you need it. After placing a checkmark, press Esc or select the Hand/Selection tool to exit the checkmark tool before moving to the next page.

This ensures Acrobat doesn’t accidentally stamp another checkmark in the same spot on the new page. The key is to avoid leaving the checkmark tool continuously selected as you navigate pages. If the issue still continues, please share the following details for further investigations:

a short screen recording of the behavior,
your OS,

I have the latest, its auto updating. I havent had problems for a year so it feels something havens from your side.. same time last year and i have the most to do now.. dont have time for this..

are there better softwares?

please share the following details for further investigations:

A short screen recording of the behavior.
OS (Operating system) name and version
Your Acrobat version (Help > About Acrobat),
And note whether it happens in one file or every file.

i “dot” one page, and the same happens on every page after. record and mail to computer feels abit much work.

Now im back, havent had the problem since then, didnt do anything for it to go away and now its back with no explanation.. have you done any updates?

It sounds like the checkmarks you're seeing might be showing up on multiple pages because of how they were added. If you're using a PDF viewer like Adobe Acrobat, checkmarks made with the Comments or Stamp tools can sometimes appear on other pages—especially if you copied and pasted them or if a certain setting is causing them to repeat.

Also, if the checkmark tool stays turned on after you place one, clicking again on a new page might put another checkmark in the same spot.

Sometimes, checkmarks can also be added on a layer or template that shows up on every page, which can make it look like they’re being duplicated.

Can you let us know if this happens with just one PDF file or with all of them? Please try with a different file to check.

It would also help a lot if you could share a short video showing what steps you're taking and how the issue appears, so we can better understand and help.

different name but still me - This started happening a couple of days ago without me changing any settings. I just push on the "fast tab" any choose checkmark. Then i go through my document and as you say, when i change page it starts to copy what i did on the last page. Like i said it didnt happen at first but now i cant use this tool.. So is it a new setting or a bug that can be fixed?
