Question

"Clear all" not working after comment filters applied

We are working on a legal digitization project where many users will now be adding markup digitally to PDFs instead of writing in margins or using post-it notes. The “Filter” feature on the Comments panel is super useful for reviewing a lot of annotations, but once applied, “Clear all” does not reset the selections. Apparently this works as advertised in the free Reader and Mac version of the paid product, but not the PC Version. We are on Continuous Release Version 2025.01.20756 64 bit running on Windows 11 Enterprise. I’ve searched and have found no other references to this bug. Is there a workaround (without closing and reopening the file) or a fix planned?

Hi Amal! This is so helpful, I put a ticket in this morning to request an update to latest release. To answer your question (I just tested it) … neither the tick boxes in the form part or the result subset clear/reset after using “Clear All”. I noticed an additional issue when I just tested now … I added notations of several types … highlight, comment and drawing and/but I had to save/close and reopen the document to see everything past the first one I applied. Hopefully the update will resolve all issues, if not I will reply back as requested.

    Hi @BernardineWood

Hope you are doing well and thanks for the detailed report.

First, a version note. You're on 2025.001.20756, which is several releases behind. The current Continuous Release on Windows is 26.001.21563 (released May 18, 2026). The comments panel and its filter UI have received multiple fixes across the intervening releases, and there's a reasonable chance this issue gets fixed with the update. Before anything else, I'd recommend updating the application go to Help > Check for Updates, then restart Acrobat and retest.

If your machine is managed by IT and updates are gated, it's worth asking them to push the latest Continuous build.

Workarounds if you can't update immediately (or if the issue persists after updating):

    1. Toggle the filter off via the funnel icon. In the Comments pane, click the filter (funnel) icon at the top of the comments list, toggling it once more should remove the active filter without needing "Clear all." On some builds this resets the view even when "Clear all" inside the filter dropdown does not.
    2. Switch comment sort order (Sort by > Page, then back to whatever you were using). Changing the sort sometimes triggers a redraw of the list that picks up the cleared filter state.

Also, when you say "does not reset the selections," can you clarify whether:

    • the checkboxes inside the filter dropdown remain ticked after clicking Clear all, or
    • the checkboxes clear, but the comment list still shows the filtered subset rather than all comments?

If you're still seeing it on the latest build, please reply here with the updated version number and a screenshot of the filter pane before and after clicking Clear all or a small video recording of the steps you are taking and the issue as it occurs for more clarity and further investigation by our development team.

Let us know how it goes.
