Question

Code images in pdf to editable text

Hello,

I have a class with coding examples in a powerpoint format. However our teacher took screenshots of the code instead of a text version

that we can easily copy and paste and modify at will according to our needs.

I converted all powerpoints to pdf files and regrouped them to make an easy to search in document.

The only issue is that the pdf still has the screen shots as plain images that I can search for using CTRL + F.

And images of code that I cant simply copy and paste.

Please help,

Thank you

Jonathan

I wonder if your teacher is making a point that copy-and-paste is not programming... you could ask him or her.

Hi Test,

I thought about that but whether you're copying and pasting actual text or manually typing it out, it's still copying and pasting/typing. I suppose it's what the teacher is demonstrating for *processing* that information is the key. But we do not know.

But I agree that contacting the teacher and asking is important here to learn the objective.

That may be able to be done in Acrobat Pro but not Adobe Reader.

I say "may" only because if it's a screenshot, that might have too low a resolution to get a good quality OCR processing of the image. At best there may be errors within the text but that is correctable and at least will get you further along than where you are right now.

However, have you asked the teacher for the PowerPoint Stack of that class? Have you asked the teacher to copy and past the items that you want?

I'd try to get the material that way first if at all possible.

Meanwhile, Acrobat Pro is not cheap and even if you are a student, you might find that getting Acrobat Pro at a student rate a bit more than you really are able to pay for. If this is a one-shot deal, you can download Acrobat Pro on a trial basis for 7 days.

Alternatively you can find much cheaper OCR software out there that will not be as powerful or as complete as Acrobat Pro but, well, cheaper.

Let us know if any of these options work out for you.
