I've been using this function for 2 years without any issues. All in a sudden now any time I want to combine pdf files the process never finishes. Can someone tell me why or what I need to do to fix this?

Hi @Lynnie2816,

This usually happens when one of the files you’re trying to combine is damaged or has embedded fonts or forms that Acrobat can’t process properly. Try these quick fixes:

  1. Open each PDF separately and save them again using “Save As” — this refreshes the file structure.

  2. Then go to File → Create → Combine Files into a Single PDF and add them one by one.

  3. If it still hangs, go to Help → Repair Installation in Acrobat to fix any program errors.

  4. Also, make sure you’re using the latest Acrobat version, since a few older builds had bugs with the combine feature.

After doing this, the combine process should finish normally.

Thanks so much for the tips. I will keep this in mind in the event it happens again.

We don't have much information to go on and help you. Can you share with us:

Which version of Acrobat?

Acrobat Pro? Standard? Premium? Reader?

What kind of system and OS?

Are you trying to compile a portfolio? Or are you creating PDFs from files in other formats to combine into a larger PDF?

Where are the source files located? On your system? On your physical networK? In a cloud service folder online?

With more information, we have a better shot at helping you. We need more to go on to help you.

I have the Adobe Acrobat PDF Pack plan. I can't find anywhere where it will tell me what version it is.
I have multiple pdf files that I combine into 1 pdf file. The files can be in multiple places, on my hard drive, email, or on a shared drive. I've been doing this for 2 years with no problems until now. I've tried accessing Acrobat on chrome and microsoft edge and I get the same result.

That adds another layer to this issue. The Adobe PDF Pack isn't software on your system, per se. It guarantees you access to Adobe PDF services using Adobe online servers and server-based tools.

So in addition to all that stuff I asked about above, we'd also need to know which web browser(s) you've tried for using those services and what results you've encountered from each one you've used to help narrow down your problems.

Please, if you could share answers to the questions we've asked, it'll help us help you past your issues.
