Question

combining different PDF's creates some pages to have blocks instead of letter type

Hi Everybody,

In my work i create manufacturing data books, this means that i put all documents about one product/order in one PDF and then it is submitted to the customer.

My experience is that when i create PDF's from my own made word documents and i add in the PDF's received from my supplier from some pages the letter type change to blocks.

As i'm creating book over 1200 pages i don't want to check every single page is with letter type instead of the blocks, it is also not very nice to have it send to the customer and some pages are not readable.

What i do now is i print the received PDF to PDF printer and then save it under and other name, this way i can import the document without changing the lettertype to blocks. as this is costing me a lot of time i wanted to check if maybe somebody else has a better solution for me?

I hope there is someone who can help me with this,

regards,

Francisca

What are the exact steps you use to make the PDFs from Microsoft Word?

When you go into the PDF and choose File > Properties > Description, what does it say for the Creator?

How are you combining the PDFs?

Are the "blocks" in the documents you create or others create? Are they there before you combine the documents?

What do you mean by "block"?

Hi thanks for your response

First i start with a word document and save it as adobe pfd.

second step is that i’m including new pdf documents that i received from my supplier.

i combining documents by using organize pages and then i drag and drop the files.

The part that i created from word now change to blocks instead of letter types.

also some of the pages from the document received from my supplier also change to block, but not all pages.

Print screen of the block below

Also a print screen of the description in the pdf file below

Hope you can help me

regards,

Francisca

Hi franciscat,

Generally when blocks show up it's because the font wasn't available. By this I mean that the PDF may have the font "fred" in the document but if you do not have "fred" installed, it will show up as blocks. Supposedly, when a PDF is generated, it is supposed to embed the font into the PDF so it's available for anyone on any system. But it cannot be guaranteed that Word will do that accurately or properly.

In addition, if the other party is on a Mac and you are using a PC, that can also compound the problem. In these days IT SHOULDN'T but it still can.

One way that you might be able to avoid this is to coordinate which font(s) you are going to use. Yes, this is a hassle but if it solves the problem, it might be worth it.

Please let us know if this helps.
