Combining Files best Practices

I am currently conbining several files into one single pdf, adding page numbers and creating a table of contents. Several documents already have a table of contents. However, now those page numbers will change. What is best practice for this? Should I take out their table of contents or edit the numbers?

If there is any way at all, you should be editing the original files and remaking the PDF. Editing the PDF files is a desperate last resort for when the original files were lost and all the backups eaten by termites. You may, in such a case, find it least painful to try exporting to DOC and cleaning up to make a new stab at it using Word. At least, do this for the new TOC pages, way too painful in Acrobat.
