Question

Combining Multiple Word Documents to PDF is very slow

I have 16 MS Word documents, each less than 200KB, stored to a local drive on the PC.  When I use Adobe to combine them into a single PDF, it is taking about 10 minutes.  Is this normal with the 2020 version of Pro?  In the past, this only takes a couple of minutes.

No, this is not normal. It should take no longer than a minute (remember that each file has to be converted first to a PDF, and then combined). What exact command are you using to combine them?

I am selecting the files in Windows Explorer, Right Clicking, Combine in Adobe and then once the documents appear in the Adobe application, click the Combine button to start the process.  The MS Word files are local.  PC has more than enough free space on the local drive and 16 GB of Ram.

@Spectraflame that sounds very strange for combining 16 small Word documents into a PDF to take 10 minutes in Adobe Pro 2020. Well, the latest version is 2024, so that may be the reason why it can be slow. Is your computer also slow in general or just when combining the file PDFs into one? RAM or hard drive may be an issue, not enough RAM or a slow HD proccessing power, respectively. Also clear any temporary files, recycle and empty the trash cans and clear your cache. Hopefully, that helps alleviate the issues on hand

I performed a reinstall of the software after removing all of the temp/cache files but still having the same issue.  Looking into how much it will cost to upgrade to a newer version but also inspecting each of the MS Word documents to see if there are any issue.  During the testing this morning, some of them were unable to be converted.
