Comment boxes have appeared next to every redaction mark

Hi there!

I have been redacting a document with Arobat Pro and at some point I've clicked something and suddenly there are empty comment boxes all down the side of the document, each one attached to each redaction I have done. I have no idea how this happened so now have no idea how to get rid of them. I dont want or need any of them so is there a way to get rid of all of them together? I've already redacted well over half the document (hundreds of pages) so I really dont want to have to delete all redactions to get rid of the comment boxes unless I absolutely have to.

I assume whatever I did is just a check box somewhere but I have no idea where, can anyone help?

Thank you.

I know this is old but I am leaving the solution that worked for me in case someone runs into the same issue. While you have the impacted document open, press CTRL 7 (not F7) and then depending on the size of your document, give it a few seconds. The comments will all revert back to hidden. By default, everytime you mark a section to be redacted, Acrobat creates a hidden comment and users sometime inadvertantly make them visible. The keystroke was tested in Acrobat 2020 and DC (8/21/25). Hope that helps someone.

Thank you for this, I personally am in another job and do not use this feature anymore but I thank you for this solutiion and have passed it on to my old colleagues as it may still be an issue for them occasionally. 🙂

They will be gone when you apply the redactions.

Have you applied the redactions?

No, the redaction mark outlines are there but not applied. Each redaction mark had a comment box attached to it and down the side of the document. There doesn't seem to be a way to get rid of them all but I found a slightly easier way to get rid of them if there were several on a page, I'd choose the bottom one, click on the cross to delete it, then it would automatically move to the next comment cross, so I'd just click click click and all the boxes would get deleted.

In the preferences of Acrobat disable the entry "Automatically open comment pop-ups for comments other than notes".
