Question

Comments: determine whether insert text or replace text

I have two questions: My Adobe indicated it encountered a problem and it closed the PDF document I was working in. When I re-opened and restored the document, I am not able to see whether it kept my previous work, which was switching general comments to specifically insert text or replace text. How do I determine if my earlier changes were kept?

Next, is there an easy way to change the comments from Add Text Comment to either Insert Text or Replace Text without have to delete the original comment, select the option (insert/replace) I want and paste the comment back in?

Thank you.

Regarding the missing changes: Check the Modified time of the document. It would reflect the last time the file was saved. Alternatively, you can sort the comments by date, but that seems to only work on a day-basis, not actual time.

A script can be used to point out the last actual comment that was created, which might help you figure out if any others were lost.

Regarding converting comments from one type to another: Yes, that might be possible. The Insert Text comment is just a caret, though, so it doesn't have any actual text selected with it, so replacing it with something like a Replace Text comment will be tricky, as it can't know which text to actually select. Other types are easier to work with, though. Either way, it will require a custom-made script.

If you're interested in hiring a professional to create it for you, feel free to contact me privately by clicking my user-name and then on "Send a Message", and we could discuss it further.

Thank you for the guidance.

Re script and hiring a professional to create it, thank you for the offer. This is a work project and we are under a frozen budget, so that's not an option right now. Good to know it is available though.
