Compressing all pdf files on a Mac

Is there any way to compress all the pdf files on my computer (or in my cloud storage) and have them end up in the same location as they were in before being compressed.

Please be aware that in most cases, such “compression” is in fact lossy, potentially reducing subsequent display and/or print quality, especially in raster images.

The PDF format, as is, assuming you are using PDF 1.5 is already highly compressed in terms of lossless compression.

By compression do you mean like zipping them up in an archive, or something like saving them using the Reduced Size PDF command?

Thanks for the follow up question. I mean using the reduce the file size function that doesn’t zip but does compress the files.

In that case you can kind of do it by using the Action Wizard in Acrobat Pro. Create a new Action and add to it a Save command and under the settings of that command select the PDF Optimizer box and specify the settings you wish to use.

You can't really run it on all of the PDF files in your computer, though, unless you select them one at a time, but you can run it on a folder of files and it will process all sub-folders, too. Just be aware it will convert all non-PDFs to PDFs in the process...
