Convert a website URL from text to an active link

I have a popup menu created in JS that includes an 'About' dialog that displays a website in text format. Is there a way to use the JS method this.getURL() to convert the website text based URL to an active link on a PDF form? Please don't tell me to use the add/edit web link provided under the 'Edit' tool in Acrobat. Your response to this subject matter is appreciated. Thank you ahead of time.

Sorry, I should have asked 'How can I implement the launchURL() method in my 'About' dialog box to convert my existing text based URL to an active link?' as I believe this.getURL() method isn't going to work.
