convert pdf to hardcoded double page layout

Hi,

I have a pdf with 100 pages, and when I use file > "double page lay-out" + save , it always opens 2 pages in one screen, also when somebody else opens it. So it is like an open book or catalogue, but only in Adobe PDF reader, not when the PDF is opened in a browser.

So this technique does not really "hardcode" or alter that pdf with Acrobat.

So how can I fundamentally alter this pdf, that it is always 2 page lay-out ?

I have alle the Adobe CC programs (indesgn, Ilustrator, ...).

thank you

You only need the PDF file, yes. The other way is to do it manually.

If you only need to do it once contact me privately (via try6767 at gmail.com) and I could do it for you for a reduced fee and send it back to you.

You can output each two sheets to one PDF page to "force" it to show correctly even in applications that don't respect the "Initial View" settings. This is a bit tricky to do on a Mac, though, as you don't have the virtual Adobe PDF Printer available, but it can still be done using a script, like this (paid-for) one I've developed: http://try67.blogspot.com/2015/07/acrobat-print-multiple-pages-per-sheet.html

hi,

I have the whole creative suite, and I have Adobe Acrobat also.
So I can only convert it to a hardcoded double page PDF with your script ?

If that's the only solution, I will purchase it, however it's a pity there is no other way, as I would only need this function once...

I only have the end product PDF, not the Indesign or Illustrator files. So would this script work ? I would need to print that PDF once again to a double sided PDF ?

Hi Webdesign,

It's not that it's hard-coded that's the problem, it's just that that coding is not understood by the browser (some may understand it, other's obviously do not).

Simply, while the command is there in the PDF, the PDF readers used by browsers simply ignore that command.

Sorry.

Hi Gary,

Thanks.

So my only option seems here:

1/ split the pdf in separate PDF-files

2/ make a canvas double the width of one PDF in Adobe Illustrator

3/ paste 2 PDF's in it, to have double page view
4/ export that illustrator double page as PDF

5/ repeat ... for the 100 pages 😞

( a bit disappointed that with the whole creative suite CC, it has to be done manually ... )

So would this work this way ?

The downside, is that an imported PDF in Illustrator uses font outline vectors, and not the embedded fonts, which may negatively impact the overall total PDF size.
