Copying comments from Acrobat to Word: font size goes haywire

I have a PDF with comments. In Acrobat, these appear normal. But when I copy the comment text from Acrobat to MS Word, the font size is set to 1638 pt, which is unusable: one letter is larger than the page.

In Word, I’ve set all copy/paste options to Keep Text Only which should strip all formatting. Somehow, Acrobat comments are still pasted with this unusable formatting.

The only workaround I’ve found is to paste into a text editor to get rid of the formatting, then copy-paste into Word.

I’ve also tested copying document content from the PDF to Word. This retains its formatting from the PDF, again even if all copy/paste options in Word are set to Keep Text Only which should strip all formatting.

Troubleshooting steps I’ve tried so far:

  1. change the Preferences > Commenting > Font and Font Size. No improvement.
  2. Repair the Acrobat installation. No improvement.
  3. Check for updates: I’m already at the latest version.
  4. Check Acrobat Preferences for anything that could influence copy/paste behavior: found nothing.

Is there anything else I could try?

    Hi HdeJong,

Thank you for the information. Glad to know the suggestion helped.

We would like to check whether this is something in Acrobat that causes this behaviour, or a limitation. Would you mind sharing a short video demonstrating the steps you take and how the text appears after pasting it into a Microsoft Word document? You may create a test document and use that for video. It will help us replicate the behaviour.

    Thanks,

    Meenakshi

    Hi HdeJong,

Thank you for reaching out, and sorry for the trouble caused.

It seems this behavior is unusual. We're not sure whether it’s an issue with Adobe Acrobat or the Microsoft Word application. Please try the following troubleshooting steps:

    1. Use Paste special to paste text in Word:

    • Open Microsoft Word document.

    • Go to Home > Paste > Paste Special.

    • Select Unformatted Text to paste without any formatting.

    1. Test with a Different Document:

    • Try copying comments from a different PDF document to see if the issue persists. This will help determine if the problem is document-specific.

    1. Check for Updates:

    • Ensure that both Adobe Acrobat and Microsoft Word are updated to the latest versions.

    1. If the issue continues, consider reinstalling Adobe Acrobat to reset all settings to default:

If you still experience the same issue, please share a short video demonstrating the steps you take and how the text appears after pasting it into a Microsoft Word document. Additionally, include the version numbers of both the application and your operating system. This information will help us replicate the behavior.

Let us know if you need any help.

    Thanks,

    Meenakshi

    1. Yes, Paste > Unformatted text works.
    2. I’ve tested with two PDF documents from different sources. Both have the same problem.
    3. Updates: both applications are up to date.

After reinstalling Acrobat, the same problem still occurs.
