Copying the Encircled text using the rectangular drawing tool

Hi There,

I'm encountering an issue with Adobe Acrobat Pro DC that I hope you can help me with.

In the past, I was able to copy text inside a rectangular or encircled area in a PDF without any problems. However, recently, this functionality seems to have stopped working. The text appears selectable, but when I try to copy it, nothing happens. Only the last text or number is displayed in the pop-up note.

Here are some details about the issue:

  1. The text is not part of an image; it’s clearly text within a boxed or encircled area.
  2. My Acrobat Pro DC is up to date (as of [17/11/2024]).
  3. The issue occurs on multiple PDFs that previously allowed text copying.
  4. I have tried enabling OCR in case the text is recognized incorrectly, but the issue persists.
  5. There are no apparent restrictions in the PDF's security settings, and copying text is allowed.

I’ve also tried resetting Acrobat preferences, ensuring the software is updated, and experimenting with different selection tools, but nothing has resolved the problem.

Has anyone else encountered this issue? If so, is there a workaround or a specific setting that I may need to enable? I’d appreciate any insights or advice!

Does it work if you use one of the text editing tools, like the Highlighter? (make sure first that the relevant option is selected under Preferences for these tools, under the same tab)

Thanks for your help.

After extensive troubleshooting, I discovered that the issue is related to the selected font used for commenting. The current update truncates the text when the font size exceeds a certain limit. Even though I selected font size 10, the text still gets truncated, showing only the last word or number within the encircled text. However, when I switch to the Helvetica font, the problem does not occur, and the functionality works as expected.

Under Menu (or Edit, if you're on the old UI), go to Preferences - Commenting and make sure that "Copy encircled text into Drawing comment pop-ups".

I did select that option under the preference and still it didn't work.

Are you able to select and copy this text before you add the Rectangle comment?
