Creating a hyperlink in Acrobat Pro DC

I have a URL in my document and I want to hyperlink it.  Using the "link" icon only gives me the option to put a rectangle around it ....

How can I take some of my text and hyperlink it?  I can't figure out how to do it using the "link" icon (like all other applications allow you to do).

I found a previous discussion regarding this but the answer points to a support document that must have been updated since because it doesn't address creating links.

Thanks!

Kathy

Hi.

I have a URL in my document

Why do you want to do something that the machine can do faster than you?

Just use the Auto-create web links from URLs tool, and voilà!

I have personally found that using the Auto-create web links from URLs tool does not create links and in most cases I have to manually create the link through the link tool and insert or pasting in the URL even though textually it is already there.

You can use the Link tool to add a link above your text... If you expect

the text to become blue with an underline underneath it, like in web-pages,

that's not going to happen. You will need to manually edit the text's font

color and you could set the link rectangle's appearance to be an underline

to achieve it.

Thanks for your response.  Is it possible to give more specific instructions on how to use the link tool?

Here's what I doing:

In Edit mode,  I am highlighting the text or the URL

I click "Link" in the upper nav bar

In the drop down I select "Add/Edit Web or Document link"

A blue box appears around the highlighted URL or text ...

Now, what do I do to make the text link to something ...

thanks

Kathy

You don't need to select the text, just select the tool and then draw the link around your text.

A window should open with various possible actions, as well as appearance properties. Select the ones you want you use and click on Next.
