Creating non-rectangular hyperlinks

With the hyperlink tool in Adobe Acrobat one can simply add hyperlinks to particular parts of a document but all the links it creates are rectangular.

Is it possible to create non-rectangular links?

If so, how?

Hi @feargal.hogan

Thank you for reaching out with your question. The default option/feature doesn't allow to have a non-rectangular hyperlink option.

Wait for more input from experts.

As a workaround, Options That “Feel” Non-Rectangular

1. Use a Transparent Button with a Custom Appearance

  • Design a non-rectangular visual element (e.g., circle, blob) in Illustrator or Photoshop.

  • Place it in Acrobat or InDesign, and add a button or link field over it.

  • Set the link or button to have no border and no fill, so it’s invisible.

  • Pro tip: Add hover effects or tooltips to enhance the illusion.

2. Redirect via Visible Non-Rectangular Objects

  • Make a visually clickable shape (e.g., icon or shape with shadow).

  • Place a rectangular link in the center of it and instruct users to click the shape.

  • Optional: Add a JavaScript tooltip or alert explaining the clickable area.
