Creating Searchable PDFs: I have scanned pdf files (as images), I want to make them text search engine searchable but not change the original visible appearance of the new PDF..

I am using Acrobat DC.   I can create the visible layered OCR'd copy, but cannot seem to 'hide' this layer and embed it into the new pdf file.  Every time I save the pdf I get the original copy and a duplicated layer showing on top.     thanks.
