Ctrl+F search results pane reports no matches for partial strings, while Enter/F3/Ctrl+G correctly navigate to the matches

There appears to be a regression in the Ctrl+F search interface in Acrobat 26.2.21931.0.

The PDF contains the word "PowerToys".

With the following options unchecked:

  • Whole words
  • Case sensitive
  • Include bookmarks
  • Include comments

the Ctrl+F search behaves incorrectly:

  • Searching for "Powertoys" finds the word.
  • Searching for "Power" finds the word.
  • Searching for "toy" does not display any result.
  • Searching for "toys" does not display any result.
  • Searching for *toy does not help.

The important point is that this is apparently not a failure of the underlying search/navigation engine.

Reproducible inconsistency

If Fast Find is disabled, the results pane can remain completely empty, with no match displayed.

However, after entering the search term:

  • pressing Enter repeatedly moves to each occurrence;
  • F3 moves to the next occurrence;
  • Ctrl+G moves to the next occurrence.

In other words, Acrobat visibly navigates through the occurrences even though the search results pane reports/displays no results.

The same partial search (toy) is also correctly found using Advanced Search.

Expected behavior

With "Whole words" disabled, searching for toy should find toy within Powertoys, and the Ctrl+F results pane should display/count the matches.

Actual behavior

The search results pane fails to display/count partial matches occurring inside a word, while the underlying navigation mechanism can nevertheless locate those exact occurrences.

This makes the search UI inconsistent with the actual search/navigation results.

Additional testing

The following have already been tested:

  • disabling/enabling Fast Find — no change;
  • clearing the Fast Find cache — no change;
  • Advanced Search — works correctly;
  • Enter / F3 / Ctrl+G — work correctly and navigate through the occurrences.

The issue therefore appears to be specific to the Ctrl+F search-results interface and/or its handling of partial matches.

Please investigate this as a possible regression in Acrobat 26.2.21931.0.
