Question

Default printing setup

Hello Adobe wizards,

We have a client that uses a VDI solution and has printers shared out from servers, they have two printer devices shown but holding different settings for each, like so... Printer 1 (B&W) and Printer 1 (Colour)

When they choose black and white, Adobe still prints in colour unless changed.

Is it possible for the printing settings in Adobe Reader & Acrobat change when a certain printer is set?

Any advise or help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Tom W

The printer driver is responsible for converting the colour data to greyscale. If you want Acrobat to send greyscale data, you need to use the option as shown in Re: Default printing setup .

Hi Tom,

What is the version of Acrobat/Reader you are referring here?

Looking at the scenario explained above. It seems that print output is coming up in color even though the Printer with B&W setting is selected?

While printing through Acrobat, you may try selecting "Print in grayscale (black and white)" under the "Print" window.

See if that helps.

When they check this box, the printer does print in grey scale but he wants it so when the B&W printer changes in Adobe, this setting is selected without the user having to change it themselves as they forget and end up wasting ink.

Hi Tom,

When they check this box, the printer does print in grey scale but he wants it so when the B&W printer changes in Adobe.

Print settings are preserved for next time until you don't change them. Once selected, it should do the same job next time. As mentioned by Abambo above, the printer driver is responsible for converting the color data to grey-scale.

Thanks,
