Question

Default text for one field now shows in drop down for all fields, I don't want this.

I just spent hours building a form. At the start I set the default value for "state" to "NM", since virtually everyone will be entering NM. I went on my merry way setting up the form.

Now, upon testing, I see that every single-line (not set to multi line) text field in the entire form shows the default text "NM" when I tab into the field--obviously not the desired result.

I tried deleting the "NM" from the "state" field default text option, saving, closing and opening the file again, but no go. I tried deleting the "state" field entirely, saving, closing and opening again, but no go--the other fields still show the "NM" default text in the drop down when I tab in. So, the "NM" is unhelpfully being stored somewhere else in the document.

How can I fix this, please?

Thank you.

In the preferences of Acrobat disable Auto Complete.

Thank you for your suggestion, but it doesn't solve the problem so much as hide it. The form is for distribution, I can't tell everyone who will use it to just turn off auto-complete to hide the problem.

I'm going to try copying the fields to a new document--assuming that can be done--but it's too late now.

I'm surprised I haven't found any other posts about this issue. Is it as designed?

Thank you for your response.
