Question

Delete 150+ identical graphics from a PDF (Mac)

I have a PDF generated by another program that contains 150+ identical graphics, which I'd like to remove.  There are other graphics that I don't want to delete.  I can delete the offending graphics one by one, but would prefer to find a more efficient solution. 🙂

I'm on a Mac.

Thanks!

Are the graphics always at the same place?

No. They’re placeholders where I don’t have a photo in a photo directory.

Hi @Tim247480845hxu,

Thanks for reaching out!

Currently, Acrobat doesn’t provide an automated way to detect or remove identical graphics across multiple pages. The Edit PDF tool allows deleting individual images manually, but it doesn’t recognize repeated elements or differentiate between images that should or shouldn’t be removed — this step still requires a manual review to avoid deleting unintended graphics.

If these graphics were added by a specific program (for example, as background elements, watermarks, or stamps), you might try checking under Edit → Watermark / Background / Header & Footer to see if they can be removed in bulk.

Otherwise, tools that specialize in PDF object editing or prepress workflows (like Adobe Illustrator, etc) may allow more advanced selection and removal of repeated elements.

You may want to write this as a feature request here: https://adobe.ly/4o63v75. It’s a great suggestion for improving Acrobat’s editing flexibility.
