Difference between Acrobat Standard DC and Acrobat Pro DC

There is mention in Acrobat PRO on line that you can secure documents with passwords for open only and editing. However when I look at Acrobat PRO DC, there is no mention of this. I see: Acrobat Standard DC £13.14 per month and Acrobat Pro DC £15.17 per month. No mention about security and there is no mention about the difference between them. Why two versions? Doesn't make sense.
TIA
Paul.

But passwords to protect from editing are basically worthless since a lot of apps ignore the rules.

Okay from I have read now. I don’t need Password to stop editing only to open it. Both Standard and Pro allow password protection (opening it). But what about a stand alone version one time purchase? I am not interested in updates just  a simple system that allows me the security of someone opening it. Can I still buy a one time version that gives me the password protection to prevent opening. Thanks for your help.

Yes: Acrobat Pro 2020 or Acrobat Standard 2020 (Windows only!).

You can find a comparison matrix here: https://www.adobe.com/acrobat/pricing/compare-versions.html

Both versions of Acrobat (Pro and Standard) can apply a security policy to a PDF file. The Pro version contains some extra features such as batch processing capability, document comparison, more advanced scripting options, etc., compared to the Standard version.

DC is the application's license model, based on a subscription. Beside DC there's also a numbered version (2020 is the current one), which is a one-time purchase only. The subscription-based version is updated more regularly than the perpetual license version and usually gets new features before its counterpart.

Both can set passwords. But there are many features only in Pro, such as preflight, redaction, automation through actions...
