disappearing markups on iPad

I markup PDFs in Adobe Acrobat on my iPad out in the field as an engineer. I get back to the office and the markups are gone. This has happened too many times, and I am losing time and money to go back out and re-inspect. Is there a way to find the markups that disappeared?
