I have set the document properties initital view to Document Title. Unfortunately, the file name is displayed in Acrobat Reader not the document title. Any suggestions?

CC2022, current OS updated in March.

Hello @vivian_3409

I hope you're doing well, and we apologize for the delayed response and the trouble.

Please ensure you have the latest version of Acrobat installed on the machine: 25.001.20630, Planned update, Aug 18, 2025. Check for any pending updates from the Menu > help > check for updates, install the updates, restart the app and the machine, and try again.

Please note: The “Always use file name as document title” checkbox was introduced in a recent update to Acrobat and Reader. However, this feature is only available in the Continuous track of Acrobat—not in the Classic version. If you're using Acrobat Classic 2020 or earlier, this option will not appear in your Preferences panel.

Manual Steps:

  • Open the PDF.
  • Go to Menu > Properties > Description tab.
  • Clear or edit the Title field.
  • Save the file.

I hope this helps.

Thanks,

Hi there

Hope you are doing well and sorry to hear that.

Go to Edit (Win), Adobe Acrobat (Mac) > Preferences > Documents > check/uncheck 'Always use file name as document title' and see if that helps.

Regards

Amal

Hi,

Sorry for jumping on an old post, but I have been looking everywhere and haven't been able to find the answer to this question - I am missing "Always use file name as document title" in the prefrences | Open Settings area.  I really need this function.  Help.
