Documents not showing the images

I am having trouble with our site plan documents not showing the images. When I open the file, the image loads fine, but as soon as I scroll to the next page the image disappears and they don't return when I scroll back through the file. This is happening on 2 office computers, plus the other company who we send the document to.

I have checked for updates, and that hasn’t worked.

Sample file attached. The issue is on all of our site plans.

Thanks

Since the same PDF has the issue on multiple computers and even for another company, I’d suspect something in how the images are embedded or rendered in the PDF rather than an Acrobat setting on one machine.

If the images disappear only after scrolling away from the page and then returning, I’d test the same file in a different PDF viewer and also try Acrobat’s Print to PDF or Save as a new PDF to see if the rendering changes.

If the images remain missing across different viewers, the best next step would probably be to regenerate the site plan PDFs from the original source. If they only disappear in Acrobat, it would be useful to know the Acrobat version and whether the issue happens with the attached sample on both Windows and macOS.

    Hi @Angelic_videof751,

Sorry to hear you're having trouble opening a document. To help us pin it down, could you tell us:

    1. What exactly happens when you try to open it (an error message, a blank page, the app not responding, or something else)?

    2. What does "(kub)" refer to: a file extension, or something else? And what type of file is it?

    3. What are you using to open it, Acrobat, Acrobat Reader, or a browser, and on what device?

    Thanks,
    ^BS

    Hi @jillian_TSC,

Thanks for sharing the sample file. We tested it on our end and found that running it through Compress a PDF resolves the issue: the images display properly when scrolling through the compressed version, rather than disappearing.

Here's how to try this on your end:

    1. Open the file in Acrobat, go to the All tools menu, and select Compress a PDF.

    2. Choose your file size reduction level and save it as a new copy (keep the original just in case).

    3. Scroll through the new copy to confirm the images hold up.

Since these are technical site plans, compression can reduce image quality somewhat depending on the level you choose, so it's worth reviewing the compressed copy for detail before switching over.

If the default compression reduces detail more than you'd like, Acrobat's Advanced Optimization (Save As Other > Optimized PDF, then the Images panel) lets you set the image downsampling and compression quality yourself instead of relying on a preset size reduction.

We tested the default Compress a PDF flow specifically against your file, not Advanced Optimization, so if you go that route, it's worth confirming the images still display correctly with whatever settings you pick: https://adobe.ly/4AjlQUJ

Once you've confirmed a version that works on your side, it's worth sharing that copy with the other company too. The issue reproduced independently of any single computer during testing, so this should carry over, but it's worth having them confirm it resolves the issue on their end as well.

Please let us know how it goes. We're happy to help further.

    Thanks,
    ^BS

The compress PDF did not work for me. However, I noticed two things: the Pages panel showed the images and zooming in showed the images.
