does different verizions of Acrobat require different PDFprintng drivers? if so what are they?

As indicated by previous responders, Acrobat installs a print driver labelled Adobe PDF that uses the system PSCRIPT5.DLL driver to create PostScript and then funnel same to the Acrobat Distiller which creates PDF from the PostScript.

HOWEVER, despite what others may claim, you absolutely cannot have multiple versions of Acrobat installed on Windows and maintain the proper Adobe PDF driver or the Acrobat PDFMaker modules for creating PDF from Office and other applications.

Thus, effectively, each version of Acrobat creates an Adobe PDF driver upon installation, deleting any other Adobe PDF driver already installed.

Bottom line, you should only have one version of Acrobat installed on a Windows system at any time. If you currently have Acrobat Pro 11 installed and you want to install Acrobat Pro 2017 (perpetual license) or Acrobat Pro DC, you should totally uninstall Acrobat Pro 11 first. Likewise, don't try to have either different or the same version of Acrobat Standard and Acrobat Pro installed in parallel on the same system. And finally, it really doesn't buy you anything to install Adobe Reader if you already have Acrobat installed.

Hmm, Acrobat also makes use of the system’s PostScript driver to set up its own driver. No action is needed.

What do you mean? Are you talking about the Adobe PDF virtual printer, or an actual printer?
