Hello all, I have some users that when they receive pdf’s and save them, if they double click the pdf it gives an error that it could not open the font.

If I open adobe first then drag and drop or do file open then the pdf in question opens without any issues.

I’ve tried opening the pdf on other computers and it will open without error, so i know its something on their machines, any help would be greatly appreciated.

I’ve tried uninstall and re-install, I’ve tried font downloads through creative cloud.

No preview enabled in windows explorer.

Uncheck privacy settings in adobe.

I’ve used pre flight to embed the fonts and if I save it after that the use can open it.

We have the same issue, updated to latest version of Adobe Reader 64 bit. removed and re-installed. still the same issue when we double click the pdf files. No issues when opening pdf in MS Edge. also no error when we open the pdf from Menu Open inside Adobe. We open adobe reader first then browse the files. no font issues. then retry double clicking the Saved pdf in Desktop and documents, issues came back. Default viewer was Adobe Acrobat Reader.

Are all the fonts properly embedded in the PDF?

I ran the PAC tool also tried in flight, PAC gave font errors, if I fix them using in flight and save, I can double click and open the file.  Whats strange is that I can open it from a different computer just fine, and it opens if adobe reader is already open just the double click is where it fails.

@Quinn5E82 what version are they using in Acrobat. I thought I had the latest version, but I didn’t. I would update it first to see if they are still having issues.

@Quinn5E82 I tried on my partner’s new PC, and I had no issues. I even went to a different website and downloaded a PDF (so it is a random application PDF); saved it; and double-clicked it to open it, and open no problem.

If you can select the PDF, right-click it - Properties - and see if it’s set to Adobe Acrobat.
