Hello Edithb,

As you mentioned that you have a new MacBook Pro, assuming it has macOS 10.12 Sierra or macOS 10.13 High Sierra, Acrobat Reader 9 is not supported in the latest macOS.

The record shows that you have Acrobat Pro 9 which is also an End of Life Products, for more information about End of life product, you can refer to End of support | Reader 9 and Acrobat 9 (and earlier)

You can download and install the Reader DC from Adobe - Adobe Acrobat Reader DC Distribution  Link: https://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/

If you want, you can download and install the Reader 9 and Acrobat 9 from the following URL, but it may or may not work and the support is very limited Download Acrobat 8 and Acrobat 9  Link: https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/acrobat-8-9-product-downloads.html

Hope this helps.

Regards,

Anand Sri.
