Question

Duplicating pages suddenly stop working

Greetings,

When editing a PDF with multiple pages I sometimes need duplicates of certain pages, so a 5 page document needs to become a 20 page one with page 1 needing 3 copies, page 2 needing 4 copies etcetera.

I do my thing, I duplicate them one by one, the shortcuts have issues but thats not the problem… out of the blue the paste button stops working, neither does the shortcut work. The only work around is closing out of Acrobat all together and starting over. This has happened multiple times now and its frustrating as I have to start all over.

Current version: 26.1

Can this issue be looked into? I came across posts from january of 2023 and this issue has been around for that long at least. Frustrating!

That sounds frustrating, especially when you have to restart Acrobat and repeat your work. Since you're using version 26.1, try checking if there's a newer update available. You could also try duplicating pages using Organize Pages instead of copy and paste to see if the issue still happens.

If it continues, report it to Adobe support with your version number and the steps that cause the paste button to stop working. Hopefully, Adobe can look into it since it seems to be a recurring issue.

    Greetings,

    1. This happens to multiple documents, at random it seems. I start with opening 1 page and import more pages, then I CTRL C CTRL V them or do this with the mouse as the shortcut doesnt work even though it describes it as being the proper shortcut, CTRL C works CTRL V doesnt work but again I do it with the mouse and it works.
    2. I will try this.
    3. I will test this more thoroughly.
    4. Acrobat is running the newest version available to me; Version 26.512 64-bits, Version 2026.002.22031 64-bits  AGM version 8.000.00006 64-bits.
    5. This happens to more than just this document and the documents were freshly made by me and totally accessible to me, no restrictions.

    Windows 11 Enterprise 64-bits build 10.0 build 26200

    Happens to multiple documents.

No error message, cannot provide a video sadly.

This has happened for years thus no specific version, its an old bug.

    Hi Piter22420038s5ec,

Thank you for the detailed information.

If we understand, you are using the right hand side panel to copy and paste pages. Is that correct? If not, please share more details so we can replicate the behavior.

In the meantime, we suggest to try the organize pages under All tools to copy and paste the pages.

Let us know how it goes.

    Thanks,

    Meenakshi

    Greetings,

    1. This happens sometimes, at random it seems. Different documents, the size of each page is around 1111kB so very small.
    2. I will try this.
    3. It's a network document.
    4. I have the newest version as stated before, I have version 2026.002.22031 64-bits or 26.512 64-bits or AGM version 8.000.00006 64-bits
    5. It's not a restricted document as I can copy like 20 times and the 21st copy it breaks.

    Windows 11 Enterprise 64 bits 10.0 build 26200

Happens to random PDF's, all where I copy and paste pages to get duplicates of certain ones.

No error message, cannot provide a video sadly.

The issue began years ago and has not been fixed.

    Hi Piter22420038s5ec,

Thank you for reaching out, and sorry to hear that duplicating pages has suddenly stopped working. I understand how disruptive this can be, particularly when the same workflow was working normally before.

Please try the following and let us know how it goes:

    1. Test another PDF: Open a different PDF in Acrobat and try duplicating/copying a page. This helps determine whether the behaviour is specific to the original document or affects Acrobat generally.

    2. Try the Organise Pages workflow: Open the PDF, select All tools > Organise pages, select the required page thumbnail, then try the page-copying workflow again. Adobe documents page moving and copying as part of Acrobat's Organise Pages functionality.

    3. If the PDF is being opened from a network, cloud-synced location, email, or another external source, save a copy locally and test it.

    4. Check for Acrobat updates. Ensure that Acrobat is running the latest available update, restart the application, and test again. Adobe maintains a list of known and fixed Acrobat issues that can also be checked when functionality changes unexpectedly.

    5. If the problem occurs with only one file, check whether that PDF has security restrictions that could prevent changes to the document.

If the issue continues, please share the following details so the behaviour can be narrowed down:

    • Acrobat complete version number (Help > About Adobe Acrobat)

    • Operating system and version

    • Whether it happens with all PDFs or only one particular document

    • What happens when you attempt to duplicate the page, including any error message. It would be helpful if you could share a short video of the steps used.

    • Whether the issue began after an Acrobat or operating-system update

Once we have this information, we can further assess the problem.

We look forward to your response.

    Thanks,

    Meenakshi
