Edited text after the OCR gets highlighted.

I am correcting recognized text from the OCR, and sometimes after I make a change or accept the text as the OCR read it, Adobe is leaving the peach highlighting behind. How can I remove it?

I have the same issue - created a new thread (https://community.adobe.com/t5/acrobat-discussions/red-field-over-text/m-p/14542405#M458363) before I found yours. Did you find a solution?

Hi, @Chris201Chris and @TTTBBB,

I'm on a Mac. When I perform text checking after running OCR, I do get the red overlay/highlight of the text being checked, but once I move to the text word, the red overlay goes away. I know that @TTTBBB is on a PC. Can both of you please identify which OS you are on and what release you are on?

At this point, I cannot help anymore because we are on different platforms, and I cannot test what you are seeing. But if you both let Adobe know what release your OS is, maybe then they can replicate the issue.

Hi!

I am using Microsoft WIndows 10 Pro, 10.0.19045 Build 19045

and Adobe Acrobat Pro Version 2024.001.20643 64-bit

my pdf file is basically ruined and all work I did on correcting the OCR text (plus work I did before with cropping, reordering etc) is lost as I cannot undo the OCR. Four pages affected (I don't konw when these areas turned red).

PS I need the file to look ok, so not sufficient that the text looks ok when I have pasted it into word - I am circulating the pdf and some of the recipients will want to copy pieces of the text to paste into translation programs, others want to read it looking "original".

PPS I was using OCR via the "Enhance" menue (i.e. not just recognize text) as I wanted to turn off the deskewing function

This is weird behavior. We had never heard about the issue before. To look into this issue, we would need your step-by-step workflow to open and correct the recognized text. Also, it would be helpful if you could share the PDF on which the problem occurs. Without checking how the texts are highlighted, we cannot comment on how to remove them.

You may create a test PDF to check whether this happens with other PDFs. Or share the original PDF with us so we can replicate the behavior.

Share the Acrobat and OS version numbers in use. It will help us to investigate the root cause of the issue, and we will be able to provide you more information on this.

Ok. What program do you recommend for doing the video screen capture. I tried using one and twice when I hit Ctrl-S while using it, Acrobat crashed.

Hi, @TTTBBB, I can recommend Snagit from TechSmith. I just tested it with Acrobat, and there was no crashing.

It's not cheap, but it soon becomes invaluable for taking either video or still screenshots. The more I use it, the more OF IT I use.

This is weird. Somebody changed the title of this post, and the meaning is different. This seems to indicate that someone at Adobe doesn't understand the issue. The problem is the highlighing, not the text. Or perhaps this is a sloppy public relations effort to remove any mention of Adobe bugs from the titles? Very weird.

The original title is "Adobe is errantly highlighting text. How can I remove it?"

Please let us know if this happens when you edit the text after the OCR runs. Could you please share a screen recording of the complete workflow you do for a better understanding of the issue?

Did this start recently? Did you check if it happens with files from a particular source to all files?

Share the Acrobat and OS version numbers.

As I said in the original post, I am "correcting recognized text from the OCR," so of course this is after the OCR runs.

I don't have a video of it, but what happens is I click the "Accept" button on a word and the red outline box moves to the next potential issue as it is supposed to, but the highlight from the previous issues remains.

This is the first time I have ever used Acrobat Pro. I do not know if it is happening to other files because I don't have any other files to work on. I am using Acrobat 2023.003.20244 and Windows version 22H2 (OS Build 22621.1992).

Even if you can't stop this bug, can you tell me how to remove the errant highlight color?

I deleted the old file and started over. But, it has happened again, so now I am able to post a picture of the problem. After choosing "accept", sometimes the highlight stays behind.

Hi, @TTTBBB, I've not seen that before, so I'll have to guess: could it be a screen redraw issue? Have you scrolled up or down to see if the highlighting remains? Maybe close and reopen the document?

Yes, it stayed even after shutting down the computer. I also tried adding highlighting over it and then deleting that, but the peach color from the OCR remained.
