Editing and saving forms with many data fields and different versions of same doc.

I have a form that was downloaded from the internet that is very difficult to edit, resave and work with in Adobe. Any suggestions on how to work with this form.  It has many data fields, dates, numbers and text that need to be entered in about 50 different fields and when I enter the information and then save and download-the result has special chearacters like & and P that I did not enter. It's really difficult to troubleshoot for some reason.

Also, once I edit the form, I need to save mutliple copies that have different versions with different data sets in the same form format. Having trouble with saving the multiple versions also.

Any suggestions are appreciated!

Your description is not very clear. Are you trying to edit the form fields in the file, or just fill them in?

Why are you downloading the file again after editing it? Was it opened in the browser window? If so, you should not do that. Save it locally, then open it in Acrobat (or Reader) and enter the data into the fields.

To enter multiple sets of data into a single form and generate a unique copy of it for each record is called a Mail Merge, and it can be achieved using a script, such as this (paid-for) one I've created:
