Edits to fillable pdf not saving.

I am trying to create a fillable pdf. It requires that I make corrections as mistakes are found in the document. One of the issues is the disappearance of fillable boxes. It gets fixed and saved then it disappears again. Is there a reason this would happen?

Do the boxes definitely disappear? So that if you go back into Prepare Forms they are gone?

Or is it that the boxes (and what you type) become invisible?

Or is it only what has been typed in the form that disappears - while the form field are still there but empty?

Or something else?

Only reason I can think of is that the file's internal structure is corrupt. This is not something that would normally happen...
