Embedding fonts in editable PDFs

I purchased a font on Etsy (ThePrintablesWorld) that the seller told me was able to be embedded in a PDF, however, it did not work.  When we did a free google font, it did work,so my guess is they either have incorrect settings for their font or its stolen.  A couple questions:

1.  When you embed a font and sell it, does it give the entire font to the person who purchases it?  Or can you pick part of the font?  How do you do this?

2.  If preflight says that its embedded and the font is replaced when opened on a computer without the font, then does that mean the vendor's settings do not allow it to be embedded?

3.  In preflight, I cannot find "Embed Fonts", however, when I check it it is embedded. How do I add "embed fonts"?

4.  Are there other ways to embed a font?  I've seen it done through an online video with setting up a printjob in "Print", but it never worked.

Any help you could give would be appreciated!

Ok, I feel you should avoid confusion by saying "fillable" rather than "editable". Most PDFs are editable by people who subscribe to Acrobat, fillable forms are something quite different.

Not sue where you are with the font and the form fields. You need to select the font for each field in Prepare Form. Did you do that?

By the way, the fonts used for filling have no connection to the fonts used to MAKE the PDF at all. Different rules apply. They are always embedded and always the entire font.

Yup, I have done that.  I select each field, go to properties and adjust the necessary info (e.g. font type, size, color, etc.)

1. Don't understand "embed a font and sell it".

2. If a font is embedded it should include all or part of the font, but is supposed to include all the characters you need to show it. If preflight says it's embedded then it is. If you don't see it, something is wrong with the embedded font/.

4. Normally a font is embedded when the PDF is created. How do you make the PDF?

Thanks for responding!

1. Sorry, i should clarify - I would NOT be selling the font, but an editable pdf (e.g. welcome wedding poster that a customer could write their names in).

4. Thank you for the clarification of how a font is embedded in the pdf.  I take my illustrator file, save it out as a pdf (Acrobat DC), go to "prepare form", add the text boxes in the pdf, check preflight and then save.  I had just seen someone do a "printjob" version and it made me wonder if I had done it incorrectly.
