Question

Embedding Sound Files

In the past, I've created Acrobat pdfs with embedded sound files which also worked in Reader. After reading the instructions several times, I can embed a sound file which will play once and then not again. In addition, Acrobat tells me over and over that multi-media and 3D content are disabled even after I use the trust this document.

I tested this on my old files and sure enough they no longer work.

And Acrobat Reader, when opened, will show the link to the sound file. When I click on it, Reader closes.

Does this issue make sense to anyone?

I'm using Build: 25.1.20997.0 I still cannot play back an audio link in Acrobat more than once, unless I close the document and reopen it. Just letting you know. Awaiting a fix for this... Thanks!

Thanks, guys, for letting me know.

I'll share the observations with the team for them to investigate further.

I'm having the same issue, however mine is only concerned with playback of an audio file. Once I've made a link to play a sound, it plays once, and upon clicking it again, it doesn't play. I suspect the audio files are not being automatically scrubbed back to the beginning. Once the audio is played, for some reason it isn't reset. See attached video. I also have the latest or nearly the version of Adobe Acrobat. Build: 25.1.20937.0

I forgot to mention that I'm using the latest version of Acrobat and I think of Reader as well on a Mac.

Hi Daniel38260886af98,

Thank you for reaching out, and sorry about the trouble caused.

If you are using the Acrobat 64-bit version, it is not possible that you are using both Acrobat and Reader. There is a unified installer for both applications, so if you were using Reader before and then purchased a subscription, the application will be updated to Acrobat.

As mentioned, the sound files are not working as they used to. Could you please share the following details:

- A small video showing how the files are working now and what happens.

- Share the steps on how you added the sound file to the PDF.

- Share the current Acroabt and OS version on your Mac.

Please also refer to the information in the following help document: https://adobe.ly/3XywBQU

Let us know if you need any help.

Thanks,

Meenakshi

Thank. you for respondiing and I do still help, since it seems that everything I had learned to do no longer works.

You wrote: "If you are using the Acrobat 64-bit version, it is not possible that you are using both Acrobat and Reader. I don't know if that is 64-bit. In addition, I don't understand what you meant by Reader updating to Acrobat. I have always used Reader as the test of whether the sound files were properly embedded since people who use my files often only have Reader. I did purchse a subscription some years ago which I maintain only for embedding sound files.

I am using Tahoe 26.1.

I don't know how to make a video while I am going through the steps, so I'm attaching a few screenshots. Basically I followed the instruction on the support docements. I selected "sound," navigated to the file. The rectangle appears and sometimes the file plays once but never more than once. And I get the messaage that I need to allow for the recording, but activating it has no effect.

I hope this helps.
