I have the same issue. Deleting Adobe Reader did not help. Renaming the /Library/Application Support/Adobe/OOBE folder did not help.

I am on OS X 10.11.6, trying to download and install the Acrobat DC Pro free trial. It always cuts out around 50% with an "unexpected failure".
