Question

Error opening document.

I am having horrible problems with Acrobat DC. It is not a path issue, etc.

In October 2020, as my old computer was gasping its last breath, I moved things over to my new computer as I had done so many times before.

Little did I know that for some reason, I was going to have a problem with all of my old PDFs. None of them can open. The error message is "There was an error opening this document. The file cannot be accessed by the system." The files are normal sizes. There is just something corrupting them so they cannot be opened. Is there anything that can be done to recover the hundreds if not thousands of files I have like that?

I greatly appreciate anyone's advice on resolving this issue.

Thanks for adding your OS, I was about to suggest a different direction for you (Mac-related). Anyhow, have you tried this:

Hi Gary,

I was so excited! I thought it might be a simple fix. The folder was dated October 2020 which is when things moved over.

But alas, it did not work. Still the same issue.

I put back my prefernces file.

I truly appreciate the help.

Mark

Ah, I'm sorry it didn't work. It was a noble stab in the dark but as I'm a Mac user, I'm at a loss for any other options.

Fortunately, there are many PC users here and I'm sure one of them can help you.

Good luck!
