Error when trying to open PDF on iMac, but no on iPhone

Recently I've had problems opening files I receive on my Mac. version 10.13.5 using Acrobat professional 8.1 The message is the file could not be opened and cannot be repaired and may be corrupted. I can open the same file from the same email on my iPhone. My only solution so far has been to print the file from the phone and then scan it as a PDF.

Any help would be appricated.

Hi Jonhenryhunt,

As per the issue description mentioned above, you are getting an error when trying to open a pdf in Acrobat 8, is that correct?

Acrobat 8 is quite an old version and not supported by most newer operating system. You may try updating Acrobat to the latest patch by clicking "Check for updates" option under "Help" menu, reboot the machine after installing update and try again.

You may also try installing Acrobat Reader on your machine using this link: Adobe Acrobat Reader DC Install for all versions and try opening the pdf files.

Under the Help Menu there is no option to check for updates. I assumed if I had a Professional version I had no need for reader.

There might be an update for Acrobat 8 to get you to 8.1. But that is still obsolete 10 years: you are missing Acrobat 9, 10, 11, 2015 and 2017. Pretty amazed you have Acrobat 8 running at all on High Sierra. We were suggesting you try Reader if you aren't willing or able to upgrade your Acrobat.
