Export to Word and retain graphics

I use Acrobat to export pdf files to word in order to translate the text from German to English retaining the format. Frequently these PDF files include all embedded graphics or images. I have included two attachments One that shows the original pdf file and the export where the Docx file shows only 3 of the 7 graphics included either fully or partially. I tried the cloud version where I uploaded the pdf to the cloud. it was better but not perfect.

Is there a way to export pdf files to word and force them to include all graphics?

I look forward to your reply

It sounds like you’re doing everything right using Acrobat’s export feature, but sadly, there’s no guaranteed way to preserve all graphics perfectly during PDF-to-Word conversion — especially if the images are embedded in complex ways.

A few things you can try:

  1. Use “Save As Other → Word Document” in the full desktop version of Acrobat — it usually handles images better.

  2. Check the “Retain Page Layout” option during export.

  3. If the graphics still don’t appear, try exporting the PDF as a PowerPoint or HTML file, then copy the content into Word — those formats often preserve visuals more reliably.

  4. Lastly, if the PDF is image-heavy, try using OCR first.

I also faced a similar issue while working on my Android website where I needed to export PDF files for free with all images included. These small tweaks helped improve the results.

Try exporting using the Acrobat icon in the ribbon rather than from the Microsoft application.

We have good success with this method:

  • From Acrobat, select File / Save As /
  • Choose Word Document (*.docx) from the Save As Type drop-down menu.

It should replicate your layout as best as possible and retain all the graphics.
